Even though it's been almost 2 years that we are back in our original High Voltage spot there are still some things in our shop that haven't been fully restored post-fire. One thing is our gorgeous chandelier above our counter. Believe it or not it was missing about 30 Jesus pieces. Most people wouldn't think it looked incomplete but to us, especially Kat, it looked like a shell of it's former glory.
Well, we (mostly Ashton and Kat) have been re-doing it for the past few weeks - chandelliering if you will - and it's looking better than ever. Kat got boxes and boxes of beautiful glass beads and we are replacing all the ugly metal fasteners with these glittery, gold, bow ties that connect all the beads and add an extra sparkle. It looks so full and lush, like a giant bunch of over-ripe grapes ready for the picking!
Don't take my word on this though - you better come on in and see it for yourself. It really is a sight to behold. If you know anything about Kat, you know she loves big 'n bold and the entire look of our shop reflects this. Every time someone new comes in, the first thing they comment on is how beautiful our shop is. We all love coming to work each day to be surrounded by so much beauty. It's inspiring, vibrant, really lifts your spirits and inspires creativity. Not a bad gig at all!!
We're nearing the end of another great week here at the shop and just wanted to say thanks to all of you that came by the past few days, sent letters and artwork, grabbed merch and got tattooed! It's such a blast doing what we do. Hope you're having a great weekend and we'll be back at it tomorrow!
After a 3 week trip to Australia to guest spot, @artofkevinlewis is back home and his schedule is filling up fast! Make sure to reach out to him through the artist page here on the website and get yourself booked in for something amazing!!! Here's one from Kevin's time in Sydney to hold you over:
It's so hard to believe that we had our 10 year anniversary last month. It's been a crazy, awesome ride to say the least. Filming LA Ink was a very interesting and unique experience. As frustrating as it got having all those extra people in the shop with cameras and stuff, ultimately, it was amazing. We got to meet people from all over the world who shared their intimate stories with us - some tragic and some funny but all human. That's why people loved the show so much, well, that and ART!!! We got to showcase some of the best tattooers in the world and the reveals of the tattoos on LA Ink were always spectacular.
Nowadays it's a tad more mellow over here but we are so lucky that people know us and want to meet us. We still get people from ALL over the world almost everyday and they are genuinely excited to be here - they feel like they know us already.
Of course the glue that binds all this together is Kat Von D. Truly one of the most creative people alive and something that a lot of people probably do not know is that she is one of the most generous, caring and kind people. None of us would be here without her and we all love her beyond explanation.
THANK YOU!!! To all of our fans, clients, customers and friends we truly thank you all for making High Voltage such a magical place. Here's to 10 more kick ass years.
We are often amazed by the level of creativity that our fans and customers have. This amazing post I found today on Instagram is no exception. http://instagram.com/mcroft07 made herself into an image from our amazing mural that was painted by Belin http://belin.es/en/. She transformed herself into Kat Von D even adding her face and neck tattoos. Pretty incredible stuff. We totally love it so keep sharing your art and creativity with us.
Today's been a great one for a few reasons but I thought I'd share just a quick tidbit that stuck out to me. I think it's great when an artist of any sort digs into their history and comes across something that reminds them of where they come from or of the first strike of the flint against the steel that ignited the spark that became the full blown fire of their passion. I happened to glance over at the drawing table and catch Khoi (@saigonkicker) thumbing through the pages of these books and just having so much fun rediscovering these classic designs and reliving some of his earlier days as a tattooer in the 90's. It's awesome! If you haven't found what makes you tick, you will - just keep looking. If you've found it but forgotten somewhere along the road...then go get it back!
Hey everyone, just wanted to share a photo of the appointment Khoi had earlier with Marley! Just seemed appropriate on this particular day...being as it's now May somehow. Really love the composition of this one and particularly the glare on that hourglass giving some great depth. Hope everyone's Monday treated them well and you all have a great rest of the week!
I wanted to let you guys know that we do take walk ins most days - but only when people are available. Some days everyone is booked right at 12 and some days people are open for walk ins. The best time to come in for a potential walk in is 12 pm when we open - usually, even if there are a lot of appts. booked for 12pm, if you come at opening time we can get you in at some point on that day. We really try our best to accommodate everyone and we realize a lot of you come from super far away to see us! Oftentimes, even when everyone is open we get booked up for the day within a few hours of opening. There has been some confusion because sometimes someone will call us and we tell them everyone is open for tattoos but then they don't come in for several hours and then we end up getting booked up in the mean time. We don't take appts over the phone because you have to leave a deposit for an appt and also speak to an artist 1st before booking. I hope that clarifies some stuff for you. We look forward to seeing and meeting you all.
The photo above is an awesome walk in tattoo that Mikey (@mikeyctattoo) did yesterday on a lovely client that came in right at opening time. She was really happy and, luckily, Mikey was available right away.
There are so many aspects of this shop that we enjoy but I have to say that few things feel better on a bright and sunny day than giving someone a great experience for their first tattoo! Kathryn came to us with a bit of an idea and Khoi (@saigonkicker) helped compose a special piece to honor her two daughters. So fun to have such joyous visitors that leave as new friends!
These two rad Frenchmen have visited us each Spring for the last 3 years! They both decided to add more to their collections by booking time with Adrian and man, did he deliver! We love all of our clients but it's extra awesome to get returns from overseas. Thanks, guys!
Hey hey hey so we also have coffee mugs again!!!! They have our awesome, updated logo on them and they are all black - of course. They can be ordered on here and purchased in the shop - it's always more fun to stop by if you can.
